Weather

jan 2025 · short

Miserable weather isn’t it?

That’s what I heard when I sat down in the cafe

I laughed instinctively and agreed

We do like to rag on the weather here in Britain

But then I added, actually, I thought it was rather beautiful

Those little powder puffs of sleety snow

They mesmerized me on my walk to town

I’d been listening to a voice note from a friend and he was saying how important it is to pause and appreciate the moment you’re in

So I stopped

Softened my shoulders

Slowed my breathing

And watched as the world took on new vibrancy

An ordinary, magical moment

An hour later, the man left the cafe and returned laughing, saying you were right! It is beautiful out there

I smiled

We can’t change the weather

We can’t change the events in our life

But we have the power to accept life as it is

To follow the currents rather than fight them

In so doing, we are lifted as though air itself was water

A tide that lifts others, too
