Do you struggle to read poetry?

Yeah, me too.

I can’t do it.

My eyes move over the words

My mind gets bored

There’s no inner voice

No grand narration

There’s just… silence

A recollection

Like the knowing of something

The way you know the capital of France

If you know what I mean?

Maybe it’s different for you

But I only started to enjoy poetry when I spoke it

When I heard it being played back to me

When I felt it move in my body

The way a cold coke hits my throat in summer

I had to stop making sense of it

And just feel it

But of course, school teaches us to dissect it

To interpret it

Going over it line by line

Draining the blood from it

I never had any fun with it

Recently, a friend of mine gave me a book of poetry

And a wonderful summary of how to read mindfully

And it changed the way I felt, in all honesty

And I thought you might like it too :)
