Turn a blind eye
Notice how the homeless person
Becomes invisible
You know they’re there
But you don’t look at them
Their presence is too uncomfortable
So you shut down your natural empathy
And turn a blind eye to reality
And similarly
There are parts of you
You refuse to see
They’re unpleasant
Or incoherent
So you pretend they don’t exist
But when you turn a blind eye
You’re choosing not to see
And giving away your power
Of choosing how to be
