you are the chalice
you did everything you said you would and more you are poison you are the chalice you are buried somewhere for future generations to unpick like crows might a carcass because your bones are weak and could not hold your flesh any longer than we could hold a conversation without you extolling your virtues and spilling your vice all over me and i let you because i thought you had something to teach me but it was not your lesson but life’s which sent me packing on a plane home wondering if i would be the same again if the racing heart would ever go away and i find myself hoping that day would disappear and im told to be grateful for it for the excruciating agony every since for the innocence that was squeezed out of me for the shell i had to scrape off my body day after day standing under hot showers and walking in the rain lost hoping for direction again but instead laying on the floor screaming and crying and trying to make sense of something meaningless now a figment a memory that doesnt quite fit everyone else forgets but i dont i remember that you had something to say to me i remember that you left me i remember that i was small and wordless in the back of the car the baby the boy
