never still

jan 2026 · poem

every moment passes like an ocean never still always changing i cannot capture it not even in a photograph i worry that in trying i lose it so now there is more record of my past than there is of my now and i’m saddened that every moment with my friends brings me closer to my last that every joy is a sip from an emptying cup that it may never be full again as every breath counts down and i dont know how far i am from midnight when the slipper falls from my feet and i am rushed back behind hallway doors racing as my dress drops to my knees and i trip back into a smaller life where i breathe only promises as friends and lovers and not memories which sink their teeth into me and linger like mosquito bites that itch for what feels like eternity
