The raw material for the mind
An ancient Roman might look around at slavery and gladiator violence and wonder — How the hell did things end up like this? Why is it accepted? Can we not imagine another possibility? Well, consider that culture Is the raw material for the mind Each successive generation builds from it Because they are of it And social norms seem like second nature Like waving at one another Such that they are never questioned Now consider that two generations Have been born into the internet It is so immeshed that it cannot be unplugged And everything new must be built upon it Soon, this fusion will be the only reality of our culture There is precious little time to imagine a world Where the tangible and intangible are bridged Instead of merged Soon the chasm will widen And reality will disappear into the distance of time
